MAHANOY CITY (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA: On July 24, 2011 at 07:30 hours the Mahanoy City Fire Department (Humane, Citizens, Washington, Good American and West End Fire Companies), Frackville Ladder 43-20, Shenandoah Ladder 745, Altamont Engine 367 RIT Team and Mahanoy City Ambulance were dispatched to the 100 block of east Pine Street for smoke coming from a row home. The phone caller reported the fire was next too the homes that were damaged by a fire from over the winter. Mahanoy City Police and a Mahanoy City Fire Lieutenant found smoke coming from a home at a previous fire scene at the 1100 block of east Pine Street. The dispatcher then corrected the location for all the units responding to the fire. Police arrived at 1113 east Pine Street to find flames coming from the rear first floor of the home. The fire continued to spread quickly and began to move up the outer rear walls of the 2 ½ story row home.

Humane Engine 451 and Citizens Engine 454 arrived on scene first and found dense smoke coming from the front door. Engine 454 and Engine 451 established a water supply from the hydrants at the both ends of the street. Fire fighters deployed hose lines in to the front door of the residence to make an offensive attack to stop the fire. The attack crews found heavy fire conditions in the kitchen and the rear of the home. The crews made a quick knock on the fire and stop its spread. Fire fighters then deployed hose lines to the attics of the exposure homes at 1111 and 1115 east Pine Street. The attic windows and ceilings were opened up to check for fire extension.

Ladder 457 staged in front of the home and sent its ladder to the roof of the fire building. Fire fighters ascend Ladder 457 to the roof to make vent cuts on the fire building. West End Engine 465 established a third water supply from a hydrant on Center Street. Engine 465 staged on Market Street and its crew entered the rear yard with hose lines to reach the back door of the fire building.

Shenandoah Ladder 745 staged behind Engine 451 and sent its ladder and crew to the roof of the exposure home on the Bravo Side.
The Altamont Fire Company RIT Team cleared an earlier fire in Ashland and responded to the scene to provided RIT operations. Frackville-Goodwill Ladder 43-20 staged behind Engine 454 and assisted with the overhaul operation.

The smoke and fire conditions in the homes improved and the crews had the fire under controlled in less than an hour. The fire chief believes the fire started in the rear first floor of the home at 1113 east Pine Street. The homes at 1111 and 1115 east Pine Street received smoke and water damage.

The fire chief reported that there were no injuries of fire fighters even with the hot temperatures. Mahanoy City Ambulance, Ryan Township EMS, and the American Red Cross provide rehab for the fire fighters.
