NORTH MANHEIM TOWNSHIP (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA: On July 30, 2011 at 07:00 the Orwigsburg, Landingville, Auburn, Deer Lake and Schuylkill Haven Fire Departments were dispatched to 25 West Adamsdale Old Road, North Manheim Township for a possible house fire. The occupants awoke to find flames shooting from the second floor of the North Manheim Township home.
The Orwigsburg Fire Chief and Engine 56-10 went on scene and reported they had smoke showing from the front second floor windows of the 2 ½ story home. Schuylkill Haven Engine 737 was the second unit on scene and staged in front of Engine 56-10. The Orwigsburg Fire Chief established incident command and request that additional tankers to respond to the scene. Schuylkill Hose Engine 733 was sent to a possible tanker refill site but was later canceled.
Fire fighters placed ground ladders into service on the A Side of the building. The first arriving engine crews started offensive operations and enter the second floor windows with hose lines. The attack crews found fire throughout the second floor and extending into the attic. Landingville Tanker 42-30 moved up to the fire scene and supplied its water to Orwigsburg Engine 56-10. Liberty Tanker 738 then set up and prepared to supply water to Liberty Engine 737. Landingville Engine 42-10 arrived on the scene and staged on the A-B Corner of the structure.
It was then decided to have Deer Lake Engine 42-11 draft from a dump tank and feed Landingville Engine 47-10. The dump site was set up at the intersection of Adamsdale Road and Greeneview Road. The dumpsite caused the Adamsdale Road to be shut down to traffic. Tanker trucks from Schuylkill Haven, Deer Lake, New Rinngold, Auburn, and Mount Carbon responded to the fire scene and supplied water for fire fighting operations.
Schuylkill Haven-Pottsville and Orwigsburg EMS were on scene to provide Rehab operations. Schuylkill Hose fire fighters stood by at a Schuylkill Haven fire station throughout the incident. A number of local fire police units were called to the scene to shut down Adamsdale Road.

The home’s second floor was a total loss and had to be carefully overhauled to prevent rekindles. Chief 56-01 made a special request for State Police to respond to the scene to help with the cause of the fire. The State Police Arson investigator will be investigating this fire very closely stated the Incident Commander. The fire units left the fire scene and the roadway was reopened before 09:00 hours.
