FRACKVILLE (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA: On November 13, 2010 at 18:45 hours the Frackville Fire Department (Goodwill Fire Company) and Frackville Ambulance were dispatched to the 300 block of North Lehigh Avenue for a car into a structure with injuries. Frackville Police arrived on location and found a passenger vehicle into the D-Side exterior wall of an auto body shop. It was then confirmed the driver was out of the vehicle and injured. Shenandoah ALS was then dispatched to the scene due to the report of possible two injuries.
Goodwill Hose Engine 43-10 and Ambulance 43 arrived and staged in front of the building. The first responders found a small passenger vehicle half way through the concrete block wall. The driver was lying on the ground next to the damaged vehicle. The driver stated she was hurt and had a number of complaints. A passenger that was in the vehicle fled the accident scene prior to the arrival of first responders.
Fire fighters assisted the ambulance crew in packaging the driver on a spinal board and moving her to the litter. The driver was evaluated by Medic 64 and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Engine 43-10 sent its crew into the auto body shop garage to inspect the interior damage. A damaged front end of a small passenger vehicle was sticking through the exterior wall of the garage. The fire fighters examined the damaged wall for cut electrical wiring and structural damage. The vehicle was also examined for fluid leaks and other potential hazards.
The missing passenger was located by the police and was brought back to the accident scene. The passenger was placed in the police car and started to complain of a possible injury. The Frackville Ambulance was then re-dispatched back to the scene to transport the second occupant. The fire fighters assisted the EMS crew in removing the passenger from the police car and placing her on a spinal board. The passenger was then transported to a local hospital to be examined and treated for minor injuries. The female was then later transported to the Schuylkill County Prison by the Frackville Police due to an outstanding warrant for her arrest.
Engine 43-10 and its crew remained on the scene until the vehicle was removed from the wall by a tow truck. The exterior wall did received major structural damage and was at risk of collapsing when the vehicle was pulled out.
Saturday’s accident was the second accident involving a vehicle into a commercial structure in Frackville in less than a week. On Sunday November the 11th a vehicle severely damaged the outer wall of a bagel shop on west Oak Street in Frackville. The auto body shop has been hit a number of times in the past by out of control vehicles.
