BLYTHE TOWNSHIP (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA - On July 4, 2010 at 4:20 a.m., the Frackville-Goodwill, Englewood, Altamont Fire Companies, Shenandoah ALS and Frackville Ambulance were dispatched to a vehicle accident in the area of the Dead Mans Curve on Route 61 just south of the Schuylkill Mall. The initial phone calls reported a vehicle rolled over with the driver trapped.
The Mahanoy City Ambulance 48 was in the area returning from a previous call and responded to the accident location. Englewood Engine 369 and Goodwill Engine 43-10 went on scene and found a one vehicle accident with the driver self extricated. The vehicle was rolled over and blocking the left lane. The Mahanoy City EMS crew was evaluating the driver and placing him on a long backboard. The driver was then evaluated by the Mahanoy City EMS Crew and Shenandoah Medic in the ambulance. Units from the Saint Clair Fire Department were dispatched to the Walmart in Saint Clair to set up a landing zone. The driver was found to be stable and then transported to a local hospital in the County. The medical helicopter and landing zone was then canceled.
Engine 367 provided traffic control by setting up a new traffic pattern. Firefighters sweep and removed the debris from the right lane and open the roadway to traffic. Engine 43-10 and Engine 367 was then released by Command 369 and returned back to station. Engine 369 stood by on the scene while the tow truck removed the wrecked vehicle. It was the second accident to happen at the same time and location in the past two days.
