WEST MAHANOY TOWNSHIP (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA - On May 23, 2012 at 21:11 hours the West Mahanoy Township Fire Department (Three Stations – Shenandoah Heights, William Penn and Altamont), Shenandoah Fire Department – Rescue Hook N Ladder Squirt 745 and Lost Creek Ambulance were dispatched to 520 Mount Olive Boulevard in the Village of Lost Creek for a house fire. The caller reported there was a fire in the bathroom of the home. The smoke continued to spread quickly and began to move throughout the 2 ½ story home.
William Penn Engine 888 arrived on scene first and found a working fire in the bathroom. Engine 888 established a water supply from the hydrant a block away from the residence and staged on the Alpha-Bravo Corner. The crew deployed a hand line and started the offensive attack to stop the fire. Hookies Squirt 745 staged in front of the home and sent its ladder into service to the roof. Hookies firefighters went to the roof and provided vertical and horizontal ventilation. Altamont Engine 367 staged east of the home and sent its crew to assist the first arriving engine. The additional engines crews backed up the attack crew and entered the residence to stop the spreading fire. Shenandoah Heights Engine 881 staged behind Engine 367 and sent it fire fighters to the fire scene.
The fire was placed under control in twenty minutes and all units cleared the scene by 23:00 hours. The fire chief believes the fire started in the bathroom of the home and appears to be accidental in origin. The fire chief reported that there were no injuries of fire fighters or residents and the home received moderate damage.
