SHENANDOAH (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA: On March 2, 2012 at 08:20 hours the Shenandoah Fire Department and EMS were dispatched to a vehicle fire. The fire was reported to be in the parking lot of Redner’s Markets at the Gold Star Plaza.
Medic 64 and Chief 740 arrived at the location first and found the burning vehicle in front of the grocery store. The small compact car had a smoke and flames coming from underneath the hood. The Chief then advised all responding units that it was a working fire.
Squirt 745 arrived on scene first to found smoke and flames coming from the engine compartment. Squirt 745 crew deployed a cross lay hose line to the vehicle to extinguish the fire. The attack crew knocked down the fire and attempted to forced open the hood. Tanker 759 and Engine 742 arrived on location and staged next to Squirt 745 blocking the parking lot. Tanker 759 crew advanced a trash line from their front bumper and backed up the first hose line. Fire fighters from Engine 742 utilized their portable hydraulic rescue spreaders to force open the hood.
Squirt 745 and Tanker 759 crews remained on the scene to overhaul the engine compartment. Fire fighters then repacked the hose back on the trucks so the parking lot can be reopened. The vehicle received moderate damaged and had to be towed from the scene.
