POTTSVILLE, (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA): On February 22, 2012 at 13:30 hours the Pottsville Fire Department and Pottsville EMS were dispatched to a house fire at 207 Timber Road in Forrest Hills. The female resident reported to the 911 dispatcher that her ceiling fan was on fire and it was spreading into the ceiling.
Pottsville City Assistant Chief 6 arrived on scene to find smoke showing from the bi-level home. He then informed the dispatcher that he had a working fire and to have al non-responding units re-dispatched.
West End Ladder 51 took the address and sent a crew into the home to investigate with a PW extinguisher. A hand line from the ladder was then deployed and advanced into the home as a back up. The remaining Pottsville City fire units staged on Timber Lane and sent their crews to the fire scene.
The fire in the ceiling was quickly extinguished in 10 minutes. Fire fighters removed the burnt and smoldering insulation from the home and placing it out side the home. A number of fans and smoke ejectors were used to vent the smoke out of the home. The incident was under control in less than half hour with only minor damage to the home. The fire is currently being investigated and appears it was accidentally caused by a shorted out ceiling fan.
