MINERSVILLE - SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, PA: On November 6, 2011 at 16:30 hours the Minersville Fire Department (Four Stations), and Minersville Ambulance were dispatched to 133 Laurel Street in Minersville for a possible structure fire. The Minersville Police arrived in a minutes and found smoke and flames coming from the interior walls of the home. The fire continued to spread quickly through out the three stories home.
Minersville Fire Chief 510 arrived to find heavy smoke venting from the home. He then confirmed it was a working fire and ordered a RIT Team from Pottsville City. Pottsville West End Station 50 and Yorkville Station 60 were then dispatched and responded to provide RIT support.
Mountaineers Engines 521, Fire-Rescue Ladder 519 and Engine 528 arrived on scene and went to work. Engine 528 established a water supply from the hydrant at the nearest hydrant and feed Ladder 519. Engine 521 staged a block away and obtained a second water supply. Fire fighters then made an offensive attack in the second floor of the home to stop the fire. Ladder 519 staged on Laurel Street and sent its 100 foot ladder to the roof of the fire building. Ladder 519 sent its crew to the roof of the building to do ventilation. Engine 528 sent its crew to assist Ladder 519 and advanced hose lines into the fire building. New Minersville Engine staged two blocks away and established a third water supply from a third hydrant. West End Station 50 and Yorkville Station 60 responded, staged four blocks away, and sent their crews to Side A to establish RIT.
Incident Command requested a second alarm to respond to the scene to assist with operations. Pottsville City West End and Yorkville Fire Companies were then ordered to assist with fire operations. Yorkville Rescue 63 and Engine 62 staged a five blocks away near Sunbury Street and sent their manpower to the fire building to do overhaul Operations. American Squad 72 and Good Intent Engine 11 responded to the scene to do RIT Operations. The RIT Team stood by on the A-D Side Corner and was not activated. South Cass Engine 268 responded to the scene and its crew assisted with overhaul. Saint Clair Ladder 702 reported to a Minersville fire station and stood by for the borough.
Minersville, Pottsville, and Western Schuylkill EMS responded to the scene due to initial reports of entrapment. The EMS units found all occupants evacuated and later provided rehab to the fire fighters.
The smoke and fire conditions on all floors in the home improved. Fire fighting crews had the fire under control in less than an hour. The fire fighters had all hot spots hot out by 19:00 hours with no rekindles.
The fire chief believes the fire started in the wall due to an over heated wood burner chimney. The three stories home received moderate to major damage. The fire chief reported that there were no injuries to the residents or to fire fighters.
