FRACKVILLE (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA: On July 26th at 07:30 hours the Goodwill Fire Company, Frackville; Friendship Fire Company, Englewood; Altamont Fire Company, West Mahanoy Township; Shenandoah-Rescue Hook & Ladder Fire Company, and Frackville Ambulance were dispatched to the Frackville Post Office, 109 South Lehigh Avenue in Frackville for a possible building fire. The 911 center received a phone call the postal employees reporting a strong smoke condition in the post office.
The Frackville police arrived in a minutes and found smoke in the post office. The employees all evacuated and were standing by in the loading dock area. Frackville Ladder 43-20 arrived on scene and found an odor of smoke in the building. Englewood fire fighters prepared to hooked up a supply line at a near by hydrant. The Ladder 43-20 staged in front of the building and sent its crew into the building to find the source and to do ventilation. Altamont Engine 367 staged at a second hydrant a block away and stood by. Rescue Hook and Ladder 745 staged in the Turkey Hill lot and its crew stood by on Side A has the RIT Team.
The Frackville truck crew searched the building for the source and caused of the smoke. Fire fighters utilized their TIC to determine the smoke came from a burn out light ballast. The ladder crew quickly vented the smoke from the building so the employees can return back inside. Incident command then released all of the mutual aid fire companies that were standing by on the scene.
Frackville Ambulance stood by on scene and prepared to provide rehab support. The fire companies remained on the scene for an hour to vent the structure. The Frackville assistant fire chief reported that there were no injuries to post office staff and the building received minor smoke damage.
