ASHLAND (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA: - On January 16, 2010 at 11:00 hours the Ashland Fire Department (American and Washington Fire Companies), Shenandoah ALS and Ashland Ambulance were dispatched to 219 E Center St. for a vehicle accident with entrapment. The caller told 911 operator that a vehicle ran into a home and the driver was trapped inside.
The Ashland Police unit arrived in minutes and found a passenger car that drove into a home and was stuck inside. The home received major structural damage and needed to be checked out by the fire department. The driver was able to get out of the vehicle and away from the collapsing home.
Ashland Engine 38-10 and Squad 38-60 arrived on scene and sized up the situation. Fire fighters took a dry hose line off Engine 38-10 and stood by near the damaged home. Ashland Rescue 38-50 arrived and staged next Engine 38-10 on the D-Side of the residence. The investigating crew of fire fighters found the second floor to be caving in to the 1st floor and on the vehicle.
The driver was moved to the Ashland Ambulance to be checked out for injuries. The driver then refused to be transported to the local hospital for treatment and signed the patient refusal.
Fire fighters remained on the scene and stood by until the vehicle was removed from the home. The fire chief reported that there were no serious risks of the home collapsing more or catching on fire due to the severe structural damage. Fire units eventual left the incident scene in an hour when the damage vehicle was towed away. Ashland Fire Police directed traffic and spectators away from the scene during the incident.
