PALO ALTO HOUSE FIRE 12-19-2011 PICTURES BY COALREGIONFIRE

PALO ALTO (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA: On December 19, 2011 after 17:00 hours the Port Carbon Fire Department, Palo Alto Fire Department (Citizens and East End Fire Companies), Pottsville City Fire Department (Yorkville, Humane and Phoenix Fire Companies) and Pottsville EMS were dispatched to 546 Bacon St. in Palo Alto for a house fire. Port Carbon police and Palo Alto Fire Chief 610 arrived in a minutes and found smoke coming from the 2 1/2 story house. It appeared the fire was burning in a second floor bedroom.
Palo Alto Engine 612 arrived on scene first and searched for a hydrant. Engine 612 established then a water supply from a hydrant in front of the residence and made an offensive attack to stop the fire. The Port Carbon Engine 59-11 arrived on scene and staged in front of the home. Engine 59-11 crew assist with deploying a second hose line into the residence. Port Carbon Engines 59-10 staged next to Engine 59-11 and sent its manpower to backup the first crews. Pottsville City Humane Engine 32 staged a block away from the home on Bacon Street.

The Pottsville City Phoenix Ladder-Tiller 21 staged in front of the home on Bacon Street and sent its ladder to the residences front roof to do ventilation work. The Pottsville City Yorkville Rescue 63 responded to the scene and provided RIT operations. Incident Command request the RIT Team and all available manpower staged in front of the home. Pottsville EMS stood by during the fire and provided Rehab operations.

The fire was knocked down quickly by the attack crews in ten minutes. The interior crews vented the home of smoke and had the incident under control in twenty minutes. The fire chief believes the fire started in a second floor bedroom. The fire chief reported a extension cord to a portable heater over heated and caught the bed on fire. The home received moderate fire and smoke damage from the second floor blaze. The residents are now displaced and is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
