RYAN TOWNSHIP (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA - On Tuesday December 20th at 12:53 hours the Goodwill-Frackville, Englewood-Butler Township and Altamont-West Mahanoy Township Fire Companies, Shenandoah ALS and the Frackville Ambulance were dispatched to a vehicle accident with injuries. The accident was reported to be in the north bound lane of Route 61, in the area of the Schuylkill Mall ramp.
Goodwill Engine 43-10 and Altamont Engine 367 went on scene and found a two vehicle accident with minor injuries. One vehicle was traveling in the wrong direction when it hit a power utility company truck head on. The two vehicles were on the roadway and blocking the exit ramp. The passenger vehicle had major front end damage with fluids leaking. The elderly couple that was in the vehicle was injured and was being treated by the two on scene EMS units.
Fire fighters then assisted the EMS crew in packaging the driver and passenger from the vehicle. The two injured occupants were then moved to the Frackville and Shenandoah EMS units. The injured couple were then evaluated and transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Frackville Engine 43-10 and provided traffic control by shutting down the exit ramp from traffic. The Altamont fire fighters placed hi-dry on the fluid spill and removed the debris from the roadway. Frackville Engine 43-10 remained on the scene to wait for the vehicle to be towed.
