ALLENTOWN (LEHIGH COUNTY), PA - On Saturday April 21th and Sunday April 22nd, the Union Historical Fire Society hosted their annual Spring Melt Fire Memorabilia Auction and Firematic Market Place. The event is held every year in the Agricultural Hall at the Allentown Fair Grounds. The Fire Memorabilia Auction was held on Saturday starting at 9 AM with the doors opening at 7AM. The Firematic Market Place is held on Sunday starting at 9 AM and with a $8.00 admission fee.
A large line of visitors lined up in front of the Agricultural Hall before the doors open at 9 AM. A number of tables of fire service antiques and memorabilia were for sale by private sellers. A number fire companies and private venders sold used and surplus fire equipment throughout the hall. A few fire equipment dealers were also present selling new turnout gear and fire equipment. Firefighting t-shirts, patches and collectables can also be found throughout show. Children’s fire service tools and miniature fire trucks were also a popular item for sale.
New and demo fire apparatus were also on display in the north hall from KME, Pierce, Rosenbauer and other manufactures. A new Rosenbauer ladder truck was demonstrated in the parking lot throughout the day. The new KME ladder truck for the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy was on display just outside the front entrance of the hall. A number of used fire trucks from fire companies and private owners were also for sale in the parking lot.
A new addition to this year’s show was the models from the Firehouse Dolls Calendar. The two female models autograph a number of calendars for show visitors during the muster. A portion of the sales of the calendars are donated to random volunteer fire departments.
Michael Kitsock , the President of the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society received a plaque from the Union Historical Fire Society Officers Joe Landy and Mike Kush. The award was in appreciation for their 1951 L Model Mack 55 FT Snorkel. The open cab Snorkle fire truck was to be on displayed for the show but had to cancel due to heavy rains that occurred Sunday.
The Union Fire Society’s President’s Joe Landy estimated this year’s muster was visit by over 1,600 many fire memorabilia collectors and firefighting buffs. He states his Society will continue the yearly tradition of hosting next year’s muster at the same location and in April. Union Fire Society donates percentage of the proceeds of the show to a local burn unit to help current patients.
